Frequently asked questions.

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” — Albert Einstein

Curiosity is the first step - let’s explore. Whether you’re new to therapy or just curious about how it works, you’re in the right place. Here are some common questions — what, how and why — to help ease the unknowns. And if yours isn’t here, don’t hesitate to ask — truly, no question is too small. Curiosity is more than welcome!

🌱What if I’ve never done therapy before?
That’s completely okay - there’s no experience required. Starting therapy is a brave step, and I’ll meet you with patience, curiosity, and care. We’ll go at your pace.

🌱What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you're hoping for, and how I work. There's no pressure to share everything right away - we’ll go at your pace.

🌱How long is a session?
Most sessions are about 45 minutes - just enough time to settle in, explore, and wrap up gently.

🌱How often will we meet?
Most people start with weekly sessions, which helps us build a rhythm and connection. But we’ll figure out what feels right for you, and adjust as we go.

🌱How long does therapy usually take?
Everyone’s journey is unique. Some people come for short-term support, others for deeper long-term work. We’ll figure out what feels right for you, together.

🌱Do you offer in-person sessions?
I offer various options: virtual only, in-person, or hybrid, as long as you are in Massachusetts (professional licensing requirement). If you have a preference, let’s talk about what works best for your comfort and needs.

🌱How does payment work?
My fee for a 45 minute session is $222, payable by cash, check, or Ivy Pay. Payment is typically due at the time of our session. We’ll go over all the details up front - no surprises.

🌱Do you offer sliding scale?
I offer a few sliding scale spots, which we can discuss when we speak. Please mention it during our initial consult.

🌱Do you take insurance?
I’m an out-of-network provider, which means I don’t bill insurance directly. However, I can provide a superbill for you to submit for possible reimbursement, depending on your plan.

🌱What’s your cancellation policy?
Life happens - I just ask for 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or missed sessions will be charged the full fee, except in the case of an emergency.

🌱Can I contact you between sessions?
Feel free to reach out for scheduling or logistics. If something comes up emotionally, jot it down - we’ll give it space in our next session. Therapy works best when we hold that container with care.

🌱What if I’m really struggling between sessions?
While I’m here to support you during our time together, I can’t offer emergency care between sessions. If you’re in crisis, please reach out to a local crisis line or emergency service. We’ll also talk about support systems and what helps you stay grounded when things get tough.

🌱Can someone else join a session with me?
Therapy is usually one-on-one, but if it feels meaningful to bring in a partner or family member now and then, let’s talk about it. I’m always open to what might best support your healing.

🌱What is we’re not the right fit?
The relationship is everything in therapy - and it’s okay if it doesn’t click. If it turns out I’m not the right person for you, I’ll do my best to help you find someone who is.
